Waste Free Wedding Flower Arranging

Clean up is just as important as set up.

In this social media driven world, it's hard to prioritise sustainable and waste free practices because it means prioritizing clean up. The ugly and the messy become an important resource. Below are the practices we are committed to.

ZERO single use plastic design products.

Some widely used examples of this are floral foam or floral packaging. Floral foam also contains formaldehyde. Also, most market bought flowers are wrapped in plastic (sometimes each individual flower is wrapped in plastic). We use all local, garden grown blooms placed in water!

Design products are reusable.

I purchase high quality design products (such as galvanized chicken wire and thick ceramic vases) so that we can use them over and over again. This means I rarely have to replace anything. We use chicken wire to make centerpieces, installations and more. And then, when we're done with an event, we can just clean it off and use it again for another purpose!

Vases are locally sourced.

I've purchased vases from small ceramic businesses, metal working shops and a plethora of thrift store. And in some cases I've worked closely with the small businesses to design the perfect piece, so they're gorgeous. Also, I love supporting fellow small business owners and bringing money in our local economy rather than abroad. For this reason, vases are NEVER thrown into landfills. They're too precious!

At Nurture Flora Co., flowers are respected not just discarded.

They took energy, resources, time and love to cultivate.

Flowers bring life and joy

They are destined for more than a landfill

At Nurture, post event, flowers and foliage are reused:

- To make more arrangements (depending on the type/season/etc., some flowers can last up to two weeks!)
- To make dye
- As mulch to feed worms, micro organisms and keep plants cool or warm depending on the season
- In sauces and other foods
- Chicken snacks!
- Composted to grow new flowers
- Dried for a new, different life

Hey there!

I'm probably currently covered in dirt in the garden, chasing my pets and kids, cooking dinner, playing with flowers or resting and just watching it all. But, I am really looking forward to getting your email! Thank you for reaching out. I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Sincerely, Kate
